November 07, 2019 / Franki D'Ambrosio

Do you go to bed the same time every night and stay asleep? Probably not! Most adults need at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night to properly function the following day. A constant sleeping schedule can be very beneficial to many people.  Keep reading for the benefits of a constant sleep schedule.

A Good Sleep Schedule

Benefits Of A Consistent Sleep Schedule

Most of us know that we should have a good sleep schedule. However most of us do not know what a good schedule is or how to create one. Having an erratic sleeping pattern can lead a person to feel very out of sort or distracted. Having a good schedule will benefit you in the long run. You should always be consistent with your sleep. This means that you need a designated time to wake up and a designated time to fall asleep. On the weekend you should not over sleep either. Only sleep for an extra hour or 2, this way you can become accustomed to the times. We all love that snooze button, but you need to skip it. It may take your body a few days to adjust to this new schedule. Set your alarm to the time you need to awake up so that you have no temptation to hit the snooze button.

Improve Memory & Live Longer

Benefits Of A Consistent Sleep Schedule

Sleeping an appropriate amount of time can lead to an improved memory and a longer life span. Your memory can actually become stronger while you are sleeping because your brain is practicing and learning the skills that you have used throughout your day. If you are trying to learn something new, it is best to study and practice for a few hours and then sleeping on it for a while. Sleeping gives your body a rest. Once you wake up, you will feel refreshed and have better understanding for what you have done. Sleeping can increase your life span because of its healing abilities. However, too much or too little sleep can lead to a shorter lifespan.

Increase Your Mood

Benefits Of A Consistent Sleep Schedule

While you are sleeping, the brain has the ability to process your emotions. This downtime is necessary for your brain to organize your emotions and properly react to situations while you are awake. When you do not receive enough sleep, you tend to have more negative emotions and fewer positive ones. This is a classic example of when we say that someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed! A frequent lack of sleep can lead to mood disorders such as depression. Sleep can also help to relieve you of your emotions from a bad day. It is a way to reconfigure the body.

Healthier Heart & Weight Loss

Benefits Of A Consistent Sleep Schedule

Throughout the hours you are sleeping, your blood sugar decreases. This gives your heart and blood vessels the ability to rest. When you have high blood pressure, you put your body at risk of contracting heart disease. Weight loss can also be contributed to your sleeping habits. When you get the right amount of sleep, your body is not as hungry as when you do not. Leptin is a hormone in the brain that controls appetite. When you have a lack of sleep, the brain messes with hormones and makes you think that you are hungrier than you actually are.
