Summer may be long gone, but that doesn’t mean you should stop wearing sunscreen. Believe it or not, the sun can be just as strong and harmful in the fall and winter. Here are reasons why you should be wearing sunscreen all year along and continue protecting your skin!
Why Wear Sunscreen When It’s Cloudy Out
It’s common sense for us to wear sunscreen when the sun’s out. However, even when the sun is hidden behind a cloud, the sun’s radiation can still damage your skin. Clouds don’t equal sun protection, so sunscreen is necessary to block out those harmful radiation rays. Don’t let the cold, rain, or snow fool you! Some UV rays make it to the ground and reflect off of the clouds, increasing your chances of sunburn. Snow also reflects the UV rays when you’re at high elevations, so be careful on those mountains! Sunscreen is essential for every outdoor activity, from summer to winter.
Help Prevent Skin Cancer
Not only can you get sunburn in the colder months, but you’re still at risk for skin cancer. That’s why sunscreen should be worn everyday, regardless of the weather or your outdoor plans. Any exposure to the sun and UV rays increases your chances of skin cancers and other harmful skin conditions. And the only way to prevent this? Protecting your skin with sunscreen! We actually get the most sun exposure when we’re driving in a car or walking to work, and those short bursts of sunshine can be the most harmful. Avoid those intense exposures and eliminate your risk by always wearing sunscreen.
Avoid Skin Aging
Forget all your other skin products. Daily use of sunscreen doesn’t only prevent damage, but reverses previous damage on your skin. Radiation tears up the collagen in your skin and leads to premature wrinkling when you get older. With sunscreen, you don’t have to worry about this. The sun’s radiation is our number one enemy, especially when we reach a certain age. By wearing sunscreen all year long, you are preventing skin aging. This includes a decrease in brown spots and fine lines, keeping your skin safe and youthful every day. Remember: you may look pretty and tan now, but you are going to pay for it later on if you avoid this simple step in your skin care routine!
Try New Sunscreen Products
Now is the best time to take years off your skin with the wide array of products available. Many people don’t wear sunscreen because they don’t want to feel like they’re covered in grease or white gunk. Sunscreens nowadays are light, dry in seconds, smell great, and feel like you’re not wearing anything at all! Therefore, there’s no excuse. You can even find it included in your favorite moisturizers and face makeup.
