Fungus has been used in Chinese medicine for generations, yet coffee drinkers have only recently discovered its benefits. We already uncovered Kombucha, but making mushroom coffee is the new hot trend right now. What is mushroom coffee though, and how does it compare to the benefits of caffeine and other teas?
What Is Mushroom Coffee?
Mushroom coffee is basically regular black coffee mixed with powdered medicinal mushrooms. Even though it is made with fungus, it is muted and you can't taste it. The biggest difference between mushroom coffee and regular coffee is that it has about half the amount of caffeine. The caffeine content is similar to that of green tea, yet has better energy boosting properties with fewer side effects since it's all natural.
How Is Mushroom Coffee Made?
Now that you know what mushroom coffee is, you're probably wondering how they actually make it. This coffee is made using mushrooms (obviously) that are picked, dried, and then ground into a powder. The most commonly used fungi are cordyceps, chaga, and lion’s mane, which are then mixed with instant coffee. It's that simple! Typically they're sold in single serving packets across the United States. Nonetheless, there are several brands experimenting with different flavors and mixing mushroom coffee with ingredients such as chicory, peppermint, and anise.
Health Benefits Of Mushroom Coffee
Each mushroom contains a variety of benefits, so you may get different results depending on what you buy. Still, there are many health benefits of mushroom coffee to discuss. This coffee can assist the body in fighting against any type of physical or mental difficulty you have. It is believed to help regular blood sugar levels, which can greatly assist people with diabetes. Mushroom coffee also can help counteract the acid in coffee, so no more upset stomach! In addition, mushrooms are the highest dietary source of antioxidants and a rich source of vitamins and minerals such as potassium, copper, selenium, and calcium. This helps maintain healthy bones and prevents joint complications from happening. Then if you're looking to lose weight, this healthy drink is a popular choice since it doesn't contain any cholesterol or fat. How's that for a coffee?
