We all love going on vacation, but packing can be a dread. Whether you’re packing for a weekend break or a two week vacation, we want to make sure you’re prepared. Follow our advice and read these packing tips everyone should know.
Prepare Beforehand & Afterwards
Even if you think you have everything you need in your head, just write it down. Making a packing list will ensure that you don’t forget anything important and pack the essentials. It will also give you a piece of mind as you check the items off, so no second-guessing yourself. Then, once everything is packed, be sure to weigh your luggage. This is key if you’re flying to your destination and don’t want to be charged unnecessary fees at the airport. You can simply weigh your suitcase on any scale at home. If you find yourself close to the limit, then cut down on items you packed that can be purchased later on in your trip. Smartwatches also make travel much easier- you are able to look at messages with a quick glance at your wrist when you get a notification, rather than taking your phone out of your pocket.
Pack Each Item Differently
If you’re planning on wearing a lot of clothes, then you need to pack them correctly in order to fit them all. First and foremost, you should always make sure your light colored clothes are packed inside out. This will avoid stains on them from your other items. Then, you want to cover your shoes. Who knows where your feet have been, so it’s inevitable that the bottom of your shoes aren’t the cleanest. To avoid getting dirt on your clothes and other items, use a disposable shower cap or plastic bag to cover the base of your shoes.
Make More Room
When it comes to packing, you need to make use of every little inch of suitcase space. Therefore, you should roll your clothes instead of folding them. This will save space and save you time ironing when you get to your destination. You can even roll tops, underwear, socks and stuff them into your shoes to make sure every possible space is filled. For formal clothes you absolutely can’t wrinkle, place them in vacuum compression bags. Simply put your clothes in, seal the bag, then squeeze the air out. This will not only leave you with a lot more space in your suitcase, but will prevent creases more effectively than folding. Another good packing solution is packing cubes. These you can purchase in different sizes to help separate your different items. You will keep your suitcase more organized and have access to your stuff more quickly!
Keep Items Fresh & Intact
Especially if you’re on a long trip, it’s essential to keep your clothes smelling fresh and clean. To do this, you can place fabric conditioner sheets or scented drawer liners in your suitcase. Besides clothing and shoes, you're bound to travel with pressed powder or eyeshadow. To prevent your beloved makeup from cracking during your travels, place a flat, cotton-wool pad in between the powder and the lid. And while we're on the topic of beauty items, you should invest in cling-film for your liquids. We’ve all been there where we’ve discovered a liquid leak in our luggage when we arrive at our destination. To prevent this, take the lids off liquid bottles and add a layer of cling-film to the neck of the container, then replace the lid. Use clear tape to seal the gap where the lid joins the container, and enjoy traveling without the worry of any spills.
