How To Become A Morning Person

You're either an early bird or a night owl - it's tough to find someone who's both. Many of us strive to become a morning person though so we get more things done earlier on in the day. However for many, it's hard to get up in the morning at all - especially on work days. Here's how to become a morning person once and for all!

Plan Everything The Night Before

How To Become A Morning Person

You can easily become a morning person if you have a wake up plan in place. You want to save yourself time in the morning by preparing everything the night before. Leave your blinds open to wake up to the morning light, have your clothes ready for the next day, pack your lunch, and have a plan in place of what you're going to do. Are you going to wake up and read your emails, or go to the gym? Know how much time you plan to spend on each activity, and your mornings will go a whole lot smoother.

Go To Bed On Time

This one sounds super simple and easy, but you'll be surprised how many people don't go to bed on time. After you figure out how many hours of sleep you need at night, you should be going to bed at a time that will give you that many hours before you need to be up in the morning. It's common sense that if you're less sleep deprived, you will experience less morning grogginess. So get those hours!

Don't Sleep In Too Late On Off Days

You can actually give yourself jet lag with shifting your sleep schedule from workdays to non-workdays. Your body clock gets messed up from sleeping later, and then it's hard to wake up for work since your body thinks it should still be sleeping. Do yourself a favor and don't sleep in more than two hours on the weekend to keep your body on track and help you become a morning person.

Have Caffeine & Power Through

Look - not everyone was made to be a morning person. So if you are trying, there's no shame in having a little help from coffee. Having 1-2 cups of caffeine in the morning can make you feel more energetic and alert. Just be sure not to have it too late if you want to sleep better at night. Then if all else fails, simply try to get through that first hour or two, and you'll see that you'll start to feel better as the day goes on. If you still constantly feel groggy and tired, you may have an underlying sleep disorder, so check with your doctor.
