The Best Nature Filled Trips To Take

August 24, 2020 / Patrick Zavorskas

If you love nature and travel, then there are amazing trips to go on to get the best of both worlds. Within the United States, we have been blessed with a country filled with many different terrains, environments, and scenery to explore while out on the road. Whether you are heading off to travel cross-country, planning the greatest road-trip, or just simply want a day out on the road, we created a list of the best nature filled trips to take!

1 - Lake Mead, Nevada

The Lake Mead Recreational Area is just a few miles outside of Boulder City, Nevada and backs up to the famous Hoover Dam. Filled with beautiful landscapes and breathtaking views, we urge you and your family to bring your RV or a tent and enjoy fishing, boating, and hiking around the man-made lake, formed when they dammed the raging waters of the Colorado River. While you're in the neighborhood, take some time to explore Black Canyon on the other side of the dam.

2 - Santa Rosa County, Florida

What makes Santa Rosa such a treat for nature lovers is the variety of scenery available. You can spend a day lounging on the white beaches along the Gulf of Mexico, or head inland for canoeing and kayaking down the Blackwater River, one of the purest sand bottom rivers in the world. Santa Rosa Beach provides several entrances to Point Washington State Forest, a 15,000-acre preserve with more than 10 natural communities.

3 - Savannah, Georgia

Savannah, Georgia is a charming escape where art, architecture, boutiques, and even some amazing ghost stories are all set under a veil of Spanish moss. For the foodie nature lovers, Savannah is a place where cuisine comes straight from the coast and cocktails are served at every meal. Even more so, Skidaway Island State Park is a great place for an inexpensive family vacation. Spend your days walking beneath the live oaks and your nights gathered around the campfire if you want the ultimate nature-filled experience. You can also head over to Tybee Island for swimming or into Savannah proper for a deep-fried taste of civilization! You surely won't be disappointed!

4 - Gatlinburg, Tennessee

While many come to Tennessee to visit Nashville, Gatlinburg,Tennessee has been named one of America's prettiest towns and one of the most popular places to get married. With its lush landscapes and picturesque charm, there are wondrous things that await you in this town! When planning your trip, be sure to plan a day at The Great Smoky Mountains, to which there are three entrances from Gatlinburg! This park is the most popular national park in the country - beating out both the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone! It will truly make for an unforgettable experience!

5 - Catskill, New York

The region commonly known as the Catskills is actually made up of four counties in upstate (well, east central) New York. Here you'll find rivers, rolling mountains, and the only New York state park dedicated to horseback riding, surely ready to but a smile on any nature lover's face! Just about every outdoor activity you can think of can be enjoyed somewhere in the Catskills, including a relaxing round of golf. If you and your family want a stress-free and easy-going trip, this is the place for you!

6 - Telluride, Colorado

The origin of this Colorado village's very unique name lies within an unknown tale that seems to be the talk of the town among locals! Some say that Telluride comes from the word "tellurium," the nonmetallic element that caused so many pioneers to make their way to the region. But many locals will tell you the name is just an easier way of saying "to hell you ride" - which has become a creative explanation that highlights the killer ski slopes that lure in many vacationers year round. Powder hounds will find 2,000-plus ski-able acres ideal for novices, experts and everyone in between. "To hell you ride" also refers to the region's rowdy atmosphere. Residents and visitors alike regularly gather in Town Park or Telluride's bars for quite a good time. In the end, it doesn't matter where the name comes from – all that really counts is the great experience you're bound to have here.
