Studies show that 50% of people set a New Year’s resolution, and after just 3 weeks, 90% of the resolutions are forgotten or unsuccessful. As the same resolutions are repeated year after year, the “New Year, New You” is never completed or done right. This year, we want it to be different though. If you’re committed to change in 2019, then follow this advice to achieve the “New Year, New You” and start 2019 off right.
Start SMART
The first step to sticking to a “new you” this year is setting SMART goals. This stands for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-based. You don’t want to make a resolution or promise to yourself that doesn’t have a purpose. When you come up with an idea to do, ask yourself “why” to fully set that goal. Additionally, keep in mind that your thoughts are equal to your actions. An idea may seem great in your head, but it won’t mean a thing this year unless you execute it properly. With that being said, you have to go into everything with a positive mindset. Don’t go in thinking that you’re going to fail. And finally, make sure you are tracking your goals. Accountability is key, and you want to know when each of your goals are reached.
Start Cleaning
Now that we discussed how to set your goals, it’s time to apply the “New Year, New You” to examples that are easy to complete this year. We all love clothes, and that’s why it’s important to achieve a “new you” this year with them. The beginning of the year is the perfect time to start your spring cleaning, make sure you have a clean palette to play with, and move forward with a new clothing style. Both you and your wardrobe deserve the best this new year, so it’s important to know which clothing items are worth saving, and which ones should be thrown in the donation pile. Start with the basics and items you do wear every day. Then, you can experiment with all the new trends in place.
Start Shopping
It’s important to let go of items you rarely wear. Getting rid of the styles that don’t work with you anymore will help you declutter, organize, and now make room for new pieces! Start a “new you’ with smart shopping. Your purchases should reflect the styles that are trending, and limit the amount of unnecessary spending. However, creating a “new you” and being on-trend can get pricey. Therefore, it’s essential not to stock your closet with EVERY trending piece on the market. Instead, start with a few pieces that can be worn in a variety of ways. This way you can expand your selection over time, and truly figure out what new person you want to be. This doesn't just have to be with clothes, but trending accessories and wearable technology as well.
Start Healthy
There's no better time to start a healthier lifestyle than now. Show them the New Year, New You by developing healthier habits. You can do this by starting a new diet: cutting out sugary food, begin meal prepping, or having a more balanced meal every day. Next, you can apply this to fitness. Set a workout routine for yourself and track your activity to see your progress every day. Whether this is at-home workouts or joining a gym, every little bit will make a difference. This year is YOUR year, so what are you waiting for?
