Summer is the perfect time to go away, but that doesn't mean you should neglect your workout routine. When there's a will there's a way, so you can still stay in shape while traveling. Prevent weight-gain on your trip and get on top of your health on your next vacation with these tips on how to workout while away!
Change Your Mindset & Breathing
It all starts with your mindset. You need to make a decision to exercise while you're away and fit a workout in. Plan all your routes, gym locations, and schedule before you leave so you're in the right mindset when you get there. Just setting outside 30 minutes of your trip each day to get some activity in will go a long way. Additionally, you should be mindful of your breath. This doesn't necessarily have to be meditation, but it will help you remain energized for the day and relax before bed so you can fit everything in. Try sitting or laying on your bed and taking 25 deep, full breaths. Inhale through your mouth and deep into your belly, then exhale through your mouth as well.
Set Alarms To Stay On Schedule
Many people don't workout while away because they become lazy or think they don't have the time. That's when you need to set alarms and wake up an extra 15 to 30 minutes early to establish a schedule. Create an in-room circuit, hit the local gym, go for a quick run, or head to the beach. Complete some type of workout routine, and get creative with it if you're limited on resources or time. Keep in mind you can easily do squats, lunges, and core exercises in any room without any equipment!
Bring Your Gym Or Make One
You're obviously going to be away, so you need to make do with what you bring and what's available to you. If you are traveling by car, then you have it made and can bring everything you need for a gym - dumbbells, resistance bands, running shoes, foam rollers, and water bottles. If you're traveling by plane, you may just want to stick with resistance bands, empty water bottles to fill, and take advantage of the outdoors. Some of you may even be staying at a hotel that have pools, so take advantage of this! Pools are the perfect opportunity for low-impact exercise and for getting your steps in with your legs underwater.
