We all want to prevent getting sick, no matter what season it is. Between working out, going to work, and traveling elsewhere, you're always going to encounter a ton of people and germs. Instead of resorting to hand sanitizer every second of the day, try these different ways on how to boost your immunity now!
Exercise Regularly
The gym may be full of germs in your eyes, but exercising regularly can boost your immunity greatly. Working out daily can help mobilize your T-cells, which are a type of white blood cell known to guard the body against infection. Studies show that participants who engaged in moderate exercise for just 30 minutes a day had about half the risk of colds as those who did not work out routinely. Just be sure not to do intense and vigorous activity too often, for that may weaken your immune function and leave you more prone to viral infections.
Follow A Rich Diet
An easy way to boost your immunity is following a rich, antioxidant diet for extra support. Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats that are abundant in antioxidants to combat free radicals (aka products that suppress your immune system). These help increase your body's production of compounds involved in regulating immunity, as drinking plenty of water also helps fight infections by flushing it out of your system. If you're truly desperate, try adding garlic and ginger to your meals on a regular basis. They're shown to possess virus-fighting and bacteria-killing properties, while also acting as a natural anti-inflammatory.
Reduce Stress & Sleep More
Stress can have a huge negative impact on immunity by wearing down your immune system and increasing your vulnerability to illness. Of course this is chronic or prolonged stress - which many of you may even have without knowing. To keep your stress in check and increase your immune defense, try daily relaxing practices such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing. In addition to this, a healthy habit vital to preventing sickness is getting a full eight hours of sleep each night. This number may vary per person, but your quality of sleep should at least be great to help regulate immune function.
Natural Remedies
Start with common sense: keep your hands clean. This is the best way to ward off illness, as long as you wash your hands for 15-20 seconds using warm water and soap before or after a given circumstance. Then you may already know that Vitamin C can enhance your immunity. Nonetheless, there's even more herbs and supplements you can take as natural remedies. These include Andrographis, AHCC, astragalus, echinacea, and elderberry, which may help reduce the duration and severity of your sickness. As you can see, there's so many alternative ways to boost your immunity.
