Highline Trail - Montana
Glacier National Park's Highline Trail in Montana will take you right along the Continental Divide. It's 38 miles in total, but most hikers only trek one way - 11.5 miles - and then find alternative transportation back. Be sure to use your smartwatch to track your steps! There's tons of scenic lookouts, the Garden Wall of wildflowers, and plenty of wildlife such as goats, bighorn sheep, and bears. The only downside is that there's a very short season to go. It's most recommended in July or August, however always check the trail positions before your hike.
Hiking Trails in Hawaii
Hawaii is home to many tropical islands, so it's no surprise it has the best hiking trails in the US. Haleakala National Park's Halemau'u Trail takes you to the floor of Haleakala’s crater on the 11 mile journey. It's like exploring Mars with the red terrain, black cinder cones, and scrub forest - sound fun? If you're on the Big Island anyways, you might as well check out the 9 mile Muliwai Trail. You’ll come across old ruins, swimming holds, and a black sand beach! Then, go island-hopping to Kauai to Awa'awapuhi Trail in Koke'e State Park. You'll be able to take in the details of the rugged cliffs and amazing views of the Pacific Ocean downhill, but be careful going back uphill!
Cascade Canyon Trail - Wyoming
From June - November, you can enjoy waterfalls, panoramas of forests and rivers, and breath-taking mountains on this hike. At Grand Teton National Park's Cascade Canyon Trail in Wyoming, you better be up for a fun challenge of 14 miles. It may take all day to complete, but it's certainly worth it when you go from the Jenny Lake and end at Lake Solitude.
Hiking Trails in California
If you''re a huge fan of Cali, then you'll be a huge fan of their many hiking trails to check out. Yosemite National Park's Half Dome is famous for the granite dome, however requires a permit to climb. Therefore you can opt for another one in the park, Upper Falls Trail. Here you gain 2,600 feet and catch amazing views of one of the tallest cascades in the world. On the other hand, if you want to see the tallest trees in the world, check out Lake's Trail at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park. Then walk California's diverse topography all in one hike with the Ewoldsen Trail in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. The options are honestly endless in this state.
Hoh River Trail - Washington
Olympic National Park's Hoh River Trail in Washington is great to go to year-round. It's one of the best hiking trails in the US since it takes you right into the mossy, dense, and fairytail-like rainforest. The trail continues 17.6 miles to Glacier Meadows, as you can stop at points along the way such as Tom Creek and Happy Four Shelter. The deeper into the forest you go, you'll be sure to spot some wildlife along the way!
Hiking Trails in Alaska
If you've never been to Alaska, then we got two amazing hiking opportunities for you. The first is the Root Glacier Trail at Wrangell-St. This is located in Elias National Park, which is best to go to in the summer months. This hike brings you face-to-face with a magnificent glacier in the country’s largest national park, and is only a short 4 miles long. Then, you can get more up close and personal with glaciers at the Harding Icefield Trail in Kenai Fjords National Park. With 1,000 feet of elevation gained at every mile, it's certainly a strenuous hike.
