In making sure you are affectively losing fat and not muscle, it is important to know the importance of muscles within our body. Muscles are key for helping your do every day tasks, such as getting groceries, walking to work, or running errands. Also, muscles are considered to be metabolically active tissue, in which muscle will cut more calories than fat at rest. In keeping a high level of lean muscle mass, you will aid in keeping your basal metabolic rate up - which helps in increasing the number of calories your body burns at rest.

There is an age old myth within the fitness world in which it is believed that muscle actually weighs more than fat. How it started - we aren't sure, but we are here to bust that myth! When you truly think about it, a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat. That doesn't mean that there isn't good news behind that fact though. Muscle takes up far less volume than fat does, meaning that it takes up much less space within your body, making you look more sculpted in your physique.
